For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway First Edition, First Printing (1940) Published by Charles Scribner’s Sons This is a first edition, first printing of For Whom the Bell Tolls, identifiable by the Scribner’s “A” on the copyright page. Bound in the original cloth, the book remains sound, with no seam splits. General wear is present, consistent with age, but the copy is clean and complete. The original dust jacket is not present. Hemingway dedicated this novel to Martha Gellhorn, his third wife and a fellow war correspondent. The book, set during the Spanish Civil War, is often regarded as one of Hemingway’s greatest achievements and a cornerstone of 20th-century American literature. Its blend of love, sacrifice, and the brutal realities of conflict cemented Hemingway’s reputation and helped secure his Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. Happy to discuss shipping options!
